1. The term editing refers to the cutting and assembling of shots and footage into a coherent sequence, or to cut out 'bad' parts of a scene, add in music, sound FX, additional dialogue etc.

Post-production in film making entails editing, as well as any other steps to create and finish the film after shooting has stopped. This does include editing the footage, as well as sound editing, adding animations or titles, visual effects and so on. Post-production will also include creating a trailer, advertising and any other steps taken in order to release the finished film.

2. When talking about assets in editing a project or creating graphics on premier pro, assets refers to any material you are using from the server that you want to use in premier pro. This can be music, raw footage, titles, sound FX; anything you want to edit or add to using the Premier Pro software.

3. In order to access the SAE server to access the assets for a project, you can use the keyboard shortcut of command + K, then click connect to server. Make sure in preferences (through finder,) hard discs and connected servers have been ticked. They must be ticked in order to access the data drive.

The link smb://fs1mel is the server, with students being the link you need to click on. From there click through to source, then the folder DVP(VET), where you will be able to access all assets.

4. Before you begin to edit a project, you must copy the assets to your T3 folder, so you can find everything you need and they are all stored in one place on your student server.

5. In Premier Pro there are several keyboard functions used for various shortcuts.

J is used for playback and navigation, to shuttle left. (Rewind.)

L is used to shuttle right. (Fast forward.)

Space bar is the play and stop shortcut. (play and stop footage.)

I is to mark in point. (Where you can write a description about that particular spot in the footage.)

O is to mark out.

C is the razor tool. (To cut clips into two etc.)

V is the selection tool.

< and > are the insert and overwrite tools.

= is to zoom in.

. (full stop) is to zoom out.
